[Translated by F. Farina]

•KHARTOUM OFFICE

Mona Hassan (Local deputy representative)

Born in Khartoum. After studying Islamic Law in university, she obtained a lawyer qualification. While working for various support groups, she completed her doctoral course in graduate school and joined JVC in 2011. She wants to contribute to the further revitalization of the government and related institutions by having them play their respective roles, so that the people affected by the conflict can be aware of and obtain their own rights. On weekends she works in a kitchen garden and in an NGO together with relatives. She came to Japan in 2016 and 2017 for a business trip to JVC. Her favorite Japanese food is Hiroshimayaki (Okonomiyaki) that she ate in Hiroshima.

Here is a video in which she and other staff members appear.

•KADUGLI OFFICE

Ismeil Gomaa (Team leader)

Born in South Kordofan. He majored in agriculture and through a local NGO he started working at JVC in 2012. Through JVC’s humanitarian aid and development activities, he aspires for the people of the community to be able to live by their own means. His hobbies are soccer and reading books to get to know various cultures and societies. He would like in the future to visit Japan, Hiroshima in particular, to see how the country restored itself after the war. He named his first son after his close friend, Ahmad.

Sarah Mogo (Field officer)

Born in South Kordofan. She majored in agriculture in university. Wanting to contribute to improve the community consciousness and the standard of living, she started working at JVC in 2013. She is in charge of accounting while also doing field work, and her specialty is taking records of research and workshops. She conveys her gratitude to the Japanese people who continue supporting the vulnerable people affected by the conflict in South Kordofan. She likes fashion.

Ahmad Alhadi (Field officer)

Born in South Kordofan. After studying economics in university, he experienced working in a call center, as well as a rickshaw driver. He attempted the interview for employment at JVC as he felt like wanting to support his hometown through humanitarian aid. He failed once, but luckily, he got hired by JVC in 2017. He wants to realize peaceful coexistence in the community through education projects and development activities. He believes that “true peace” is connected to what is said above. He is in charge of preparing lunch at the Kadugli office.

•YIDA OFFICE

Essam Ando (Program coordinator)

Born in South Kordofan. After graduating from high school, he started teaching at Kadugli’s elementary school and, after completing his university degree in education, he also started teaching at a high school. He joined JVC back in 2010 but, because of the conflict that started in 2011, he fled to South Sudan, becoming a refugee himself. He then participated in setting up the JVC office at the Yida Refugee Camp. As the work at JVC required its staff members to take part in different tasks, he was able to acquire various knowledge and skills. He finds it fascinating that the local people are polishing their skills, finding what was already there, and their aim to satisfy their needs by themselves. For the children in Yida who need protection, JVC is a hope to live for and the driving force of education.
