Palestinian refugees have not been able to go back to their own home for 70 years since the foundation of Israel in 1948. The number of refugees at first was around 0.7 million, but it has increased to approximately 5.9 million people through generations. Nowadays, Palestinian refugees make up the largest group of refugees in the world.
Peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine have become more uncertain since the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel in December 2017. What do Palestinians who cannot go back to their hometown think of the current situation? What kind of people are they and how do they live? Most of all, what are they hoping to tell us?
At this photo exhibition, we are approaching four Palestinians’ realities through their life stories. There will be a notebook in which you can write messages to them. Please feel free to leave a message after discovering each one of them as they really are through the exhibition. In this current worsening situation that Palestine faces, this event is a precious opportunity where you can connect to the Palestinians `person to person.’
A workshop of traditional Palestinian embroidery and a video talk with local embroidery producers in Palestine will also be held on Saturday May 26. It is mandatory to register for this event. Please email the staff in charge, Ms. Namiki (namiki@ngo-jvc.net), if you would like to join.

Workshop&Talk event: Palestinian refugees have inherited the Palestinian embroidery from generation to generation. The embroidery workshop will be held right next to the photo exhibition room. Video broadcasting with local Palestinian embroidery producers is also expected during this workshop. This workshop is limited to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis and it is free of charge. Feel free to join! You need to email Ms. Namiki to register for this part of the event.
