Please be advised that our country programs in Cambodia, Thailand, Afghanistan, and Iraq will be completed by the end of fiscal year 2020 (March 2021).
Last year, JVC celebrated its 40th anniversary. We took this as an opportunity to discuss our course of action for the future; along with considering new developments, we also reviewed the state of our current activities. This discussion led us to the decision to cease activities in the four countries listed above. Since the establishment of our organization in 1980, our activities in Cambodia and Thailand have produced results in various fields, beginning with refugee support and including vocational training and sustainable agriculture.
During our 40 years of continued activity, as the local social conditions began to change, we have played a significant role in these regions to the fullest of our capabilities, and thus have decided to end our involvement as of this year.
In Iraq and Afghanistan, where full-scale activities began in the 2000s, we established support for initiatives from emergency relief to medical assistance, and for local education systems and peacebuilding.
Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions and financial constraints, we will be ending our activities in these regions. However, JVC has cooperated with local NGOs (and in Afghanistan, a former JVC office that became an independent organization) — we expect that these local organizations will continue aid efforts.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation for your support of our activities over the decades.
After our general assembly in June of this year, we will release information about future developments on our website.
We are truly grateful for your support of JVC and hope you will continue to support us in our future endeavors.
